9-9:30AM – Welcome, Movement Diversity with Steven Capobianco, DC, DACRB and Ethan Kreiswirth, PhD, ATC

This opening remarks lecture will set the tone for RockStock with a brief discussion of the reality that no two humans move in exactly the same ways, and explore how this diversity of movement must be considered when working with our patients and clients.

9:30 – 10:30AM – Movement Science Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow with Steven Capobianco, DC, DACRB

Join Steve as he presents the science behind what can only be explained as “the body remembers.” Traditional movement assessment has focused extensively on conscious movement patterns, disregarding the role of subconscious factors such as fear, trauma, and prior experiences. Dr. Capobianco will discuss dynamic systems theory and phase shift concepts as he presents novel movement screens that can be used to better identify the cause of movement faults that stem from the unique histories of our patients and clients.

10:30-10:45AM – Novel Functional Movement Break with Danny Porcelli, DC

Our needs as humans differ by degree, not kind. Join Danny for a movement break that explores the patterns we all need to possess in order to function on a daily basis, and how owning those patterns can take us from good to great.

10:45AM-11:00AM – Break

11:00 – 12:00 – “Feeling” Movement with Joe LaVacca PT, DPT

What happens when there is a mismatch between what we feel and what we expect to feel? Are we in control of our feelings? Join Joe LaVacca, PT, DPT for a discussion that is guaranteed to stretch your brain as he dissects the concepts of consciousness and ‘feelings’ and the relationships they have to pain and behavior. Attendees will be challenged to expand their thinking and will be rewarded with techniques they can use to create new experiences and expectations for patients that result in movement adaptability, an improved sense of control, and ultimately, true resilience.

12:00 – 1:00PM LUNCH BUFFET RockStock Village, Vendors and Tunes

1:30PM to 5:00PM Afternoon Lab Sections

1:30-2:30PM – Perception of Movement Screening Lab with Joe La Vacca, PT, DPT and Danny Porcelli, DC

Join Joe and Danny to play with perceptual screening lab concepts including verbal, visual and proprioceptive cueing inputs. This dynamic duo will present perception and verbal concepts designed to enhance the therapeutic experience of clients. Experience the visualization of wellness, strategies to de-emphasize pain and mental imagery that can optimize function. The complex relationship between motor control and the sensory system integration will be discussed. Curious movement impairments will be dissected and corrective strategies will be implemented.

2:45-3:45PM – Association and Dissociation of Movement Lab with Mike Stella, MA, ATC, PES, CES and Mitch Hauschildt, MA, ATC, CSCS

Who doesn’t love to build movements up and break them down? Do you take time to consider the parts as well as the whole when recommending movement, or when moving yourself? This lab will be focused on association and dissociation of human movement and present concepts of functional assessment of human performance. Concepts of human movement variability will be presented and discussed with a focus on whether these variabilities present in a dysfunctional manner or whether your patient or client is just able to own their biomechanical weirdness. Join Mitch and Mike to play with progression and regression techniques and pick their brains about how to prepare for unique human movement demands.

4:00-5:00PM – Movement Adaptability Lab Experience: Assist and Resist with Tony Mikla DPT, MSPT, CSCS and Russell Edgar Dunning, MPT, SFG II

Join Tony and Russ to focus on concepts of assisted and resisted movement corrective strategies using mobility, agility and conditioning equipment. You’ll get the opportunity to discuss and dissect rationales for building movement programs related to clients’ needs. Your lab experience will include techniques that enhance your interaction with internal and external environment through mindfulness, body mechanics and use of corrective exercise equipment. Take homes from this session will enhance your ability to engage your clients with proper conditioning strategies for injury rehab or performance!

6:30PM – 9:00PM RockStock Village Party – Food, drinks, tunes. Don’t miss it.

7:00AM – 8:00AM ‘Slowing Down to Get Ahead’ on the beach with Brian Nguyen, The Coach Within

If you want to find a solution, you must first know the problem. So I ask, do you actually know what pain is? Can you massage it away? Is it all in your head? How do you actually treat this thing that you can’t see?

All pain is real, and if we want to help our patients we must believe them when they say they have pain. But how can you believe what you don’t understand? How do you know what’s actually causing this person’s pain? Join Dr. C. Shanté Cofield, better known as the Movement Maestro, for an hour of debunking myths, explaining the science of pain, and gaining a practical understanding of how to help your patients on Monday morning.

1:30-2:30PM – Testing Unseen Components of Human Coordination with John Campione, DC, CSCS, CES

Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not important. Big muscles and flashy movements get all the glory, but the unsung hero and real MVP of human function is the nervous system. Join Dr. Campione for a lab dedicated to the higher order systems including proprioception, the cerebellum, the visual system, and the vestibular system, and the role they play in coordination and balance. Learn how to screen the unseen and implement drills that train these systems. Gains are made in the brain. Check out this lab and learn how the nervous system is truly at the heart of movement variability.

2:45-3:45PM – Perception of Movement Monitoring with Joe La Vacca, PT, DPT and Danny Porcelli, DC

Join Joe and Danny to engage in perceptual and cognitive correction techniques that can be used to influence the brain, your clients’ internal and external environment interactions and good ol’ human motion.  Attendees will experience screening and assessment of hand to eye coordination techniques and midline coordinations to decipher corrective strategies for better balance and awareness for patient/client well being.  Use these crazy human tricks to challenge the coordination and motor control of your patients and clients, you might find out something unexpected by challenging them in unique ways!

4:00-5:00PM –  Humans vs Machines: Is data worth anything anymore? Led by Steven Capobianco, DC, DACRB and Milica McDowell, MSPT, DPT, C-EP

Information is useless without context. Join Steve and Milica as we work to uncover how data can be injected into our screening and assessments of our clients and patients. The age old battle of humans vs technology will be debated, how do we know that data is true, reliable, even, gasp, useful at all??  Aren’t a clinician’s eyes and hands their assessment tools?  This lab experience includes plenty of practice in subjective and objective movement assessment, once we gather movement data, we will band together to identify how to use the data we have discovered. Join us in this lab to stop the machines from running the show!

I never thought the movement summit could get much better, but I was so wrong to underestimate the brass at RockTape to out-do themselves as they chose a beautiful venue, loaded with expert presenters, while keeping the outstanding fun and educational culture.

RockTape has a way with bringing like-minded people together to have fun and learn!  The vibe was outstanding and non-comparable to many of the seminars that I have been to.  This was the most memorable seminar I have attended in 20 years.
